My daughter was feeling very depressed and having bad thoughts she was also really agitated. I spoke to our doctor who prescribed diazepam, which did not help.
We got an appointment to see the doctor who put in a referral to CAMHS. I had to telephone to speak to them a few times to see where we were on the list as they had been very busy due to covid and new referrals.
My daughter was getting worse as the time was going on, no motivation, didn't want to do anything, spoke of not wanting to be here which was very worrying . I had to telephone CAMHS to speak to someone and I managed to get an appointment. I had to coax my daughter to go to the appointment as she had heard and read negative comments about CAMHS.
At the appointment I went in with my daughter we were asked a lot of questions and they asked her in detail about certain things that was happening and how she was feeling. They also said to stop taking the diazepam as it wasn't going to help.
My daughter had some more appointments and they thought she showed signs of autism, she had to wait for a diagnosis but during this time they made appointments for her to still speak with them and kept in touch.
These appointments were really helpful for her we couldn't have gotten through the last year and a half without it and also got to the root of things. When she got her autism diagnosis which answered a lot of what she was going through and what was going on so explained so much to us. We can’t recommend CAMHS enough as it was very beneficial for us and got us back on track. My daughter is so glad she did not let the negative comments put her off and she went to her appointment to see for herself she is now managing a lot better and planning for the future.
