2001 I was diagnosed with faulty heart valve after suffering severe shortness of breath whilst working in a well paid job that I loved in Spain and told if I didn't have valve replacement done, the chances of me still being here in 10 years were slim. 12 years on I'm still here, still get very short of breath but now despite being told my condition has worsened, I'm now being told that my heart is not responsible for my shortness of breath and I no longer need a replacement valve and my shortness of breath is down to my asthma.
My GP is worried after checking my blood pressure of 200/85 that my faulty valve might be responsible but at my recent consultation at RDGH cardiology dept. my GP's findings weren't mentioned. Episodes of waking in the night gasping for breath and heart pounding were dismissed as "nightmares" by the cardiology dept, Come on guys, I'm 65 and know what nightmares are. I've also had asthma since I was 18 and it's never caused me the sort of problems I'm having now. I think the RDGH has it wrong but what can I do? Even by writing this I feel I'm burning my bridges behind me. Where do I go from here? I have no confidence in the cardiology dept whose findings are not consistent and I feel I'm just not being listened to and symptoms are being missed. What do I do from here?
Well I asked for a 2nd opinion and was called to Doncaster Royal infirmary who tells me the exact opposite from RDGH, come on guys, what’s going on? I tend to believe Doncaster but should I go for best of 3? RDGH has been a complete wait of time my time and they don’t consider my thoughts on the matter. After these experiences I’m glad I’m away from RDGH.
