"Waste of time"

About: Dorset County Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I have been waiting for over 2 years now for a hip replacement surgery.

Every doctor who sees my x-rays said my hip is one of the worst they have seen.

I have been sent to MSK clinics many times and every time I get told the same thing: that I’m in desperate need for surgery. I have even lost 4 stone in weight.

But it’s like I don’t exist.

Then I get told I have to attend to a group meeting with roughly 50 people, which I find very difficult due to my mental health and anxiety which gets worse in big groups. This is all on my records. I was there for nearly two hours and to be honest it was a waste of time for me as I knew everything they said.

I’m in constant pain and don’t get any sleep. I’m running on empty and the longer this goes on the worse I get. I’m thinking I be better off dead as I can’t go on any longer.

I know people who seem not as bad as me and get the operation sooner.

I’m done now with all the waste off time appointments

And I mean what I’m about to say and believe me I really do mean it

If something doesn’t happen soon I will not need the operation as I feel I will not be on this earth any longer

Like I said I mean this

I’m not just saying this for the sake of it

I mean everything I have said

Hi well this gets even worse.

The last week has been unbearable as when I stand up sometimes I fall over and my eye sight goes blurry

Recently I fell again and I was in so much pain and discomfort I phoned 111 and after talking they said I am phoning a ambulance for you

So a while later the ambulance arrived and the two ambulance came in done what they could at my place and said we are taking you in to Dorchester hospital. When we got there they had already called ahead and explained what’s happening.

I was seen to quickly and was given Morphine to help with the pain and they were really nice to me.

So on Friday morning the shift change and the doctor in charge came to me we had a chat. They said they were going call the person in charge of orthopaedics and explain what had happened, that I am on there books for this operation. They asked the person in charge if they could do the operation as I was in so much pain and it shouldn’t be left long anyway.

They said I they were unable to do the operation if I was brought up to the orthopaedics department as I was already on the list. The doctor in charge at A&E wasn’t happy as they were worried if I went home I may trip or fall again, and could do more damage.

They tried again to a different person in orthopaedics and again they stated that they were unable to operate until I had been given a date.

I then went for a CT scan after x-rays and the doctor still wasn’t happy about me going home. The doctor then got physio involved they came down help me brought some walking apparatus for me and they got me up and mobile and gave me a frame.

The doctor in charge still wasn’t happy with me going home but I just had enough at that point and if they weren't going to operate then what was the point in me staying there

I just feel this is so wrong. I was taken in as an emergency and still turned away. Everybody who helped me that night and day was brilliant and all said that I needed the operation doing as soon as possible.

Even though I came in as an emergency the orthopaedics department insisted that I still would would have to wait. I just don’t know what has to happen for them to do this operation.

I’m very sad and annoyed at the way they refused me to even go onto their ward.
