"Skill and compassion exercised by extraordinary people"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Acute assessment unit Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Elderly medicine

(as the patient),

Faultless ambulance transfer to A and E after domestic fall with reassuring reception at an obviously busy A and E. Subsequent transfer to Wards AAU 1 and 2 and Ward 22.

I saw at patient/staff level over ten days so many instances of skill and compassion exercised by extraordinary people. Overworked Staff Nurses, Nurses, Personal Care Givers, Doctors. Few received thanks yet worked dispassionately on. Abuse and threatened violence from frightened and disorientated people were dealt with but must have been at a cost. Team work was often superb during grinding 12 hour shifts.

I have been discharged and declared infection free after intensive medical care. I wish to express my gratitude to everyone who came to my aid'

I have been associated for the past fifty years with the work of what we generally call "The Caring Professions". Those who today service those Wards carry the standard far higher than I have seen before. I have a concern for their personal welfare because of the demands placed upon them. I lay no blame, but sincerely hope that we can find a way in future to acknowledge and protect then as they serve us.

Thank you for your encouraging feedback about your recent experience in Ward A22. As a person involved in caring for others your comments are valuable and when I shared them with our ward team the reactions were positive.

Thank you for acknowledging that the staff working in NHS Forth Valley is experiencing a challenging time, but it has also been a time where team working and creativity have flourished. Our team will continue to do their best to deliver gold standard care with compassion and professionalism.
