(as a carer),

My husband was seriously ill pre Christmas and diagnosed as having had a major heart attack and resulting heart failure.

He was admitted to Craigavon Hospital after an ambulance came to the house in the middle of the night. He was in resus and sadly we were told that his condition was not compatible with life, we had to say our goodbyes. A few hours later…

His breathing began to improve and he regained consciousness. The team in resus and the cardiologist explained that his survival and recovery can only be described as miraculous. The treatment he had received from the paramedics and the doctors in resus allowed us to have our dearly loved Daddy, Grandad and husband back. He is only past 60 and up to this was very healthy and fit.

Genetic heart disease was diagnosed. He had a stent inserted and many meds given, these interventions have had an incredible result. He has made steady progress and is now living life again with the support of daily meds.

We wish that that the whole hospital team involved in his care in hospital, out patients, and telephone support are given recognition for their daily work…

I ask that Management recognise and pass our since thanks to the staff who answered the 999 call and supported us until the ambulance arrived

The paramedics who worked quickly and professionally reassuring us and rushed to hospital

The staff in resus working under pressure making decisions yet supporting the family

The Cardiologists

All the nursing staff in ward 1 North

All the auxiliary staff in Ward 1 North

The team in the Ramone Building Anti Coagulation Clinic, their support was invaluable

The Heart failure Hub team - their experience and guidance means so much in the most stressful time

The Cardiology Rehabilitation team, their advice and practical guidance has been remarkable

We met so many wonderful people during the most awful time. They made the journey with us and carried us along.

We really hope that the positivity of our family’s experience will be recognised and that everyone involved will learn of it - they made a difference!

Each one of those involved will forever be remembered by our family. Please know that despite the heavy pressures that you feel daily you are absolutely wonderful, caring and selfless people with great knowledge and skills. The community is richer because of all that work in our local Hospital.

Bless you and your work always.

Good morning Mary McN,

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback, it is wonderful to hear that the care you received felt so supportive and was delivered with kindness. It was reassuring to learn that staff were so supportive on the call with you until the ambulance arrived and that the paramedics worked quickly and professionally. I would like to share your feedback with the clinicians who attended to you on the day and the staff that handled the call and in order to locate them I would require the following information:

Date and approximate time of the incident The address the ambulance was dispatched to

If you are happy to share this information, I can be contacted at:

Maggie.hamilton@nias.hscni.net

I wish your husband the best with his recuperation.

Kind regards,

Maggie
