I was taken ill quite suddenly and a friend drove me to a local hospital. Unfortunately I collapsed in the waiting area, but staff were quickly on hand to take me through to the treatment area.
It took some time to stabilise my condition and I did spend around 30hr in A&E but I was transferred into a proper bed rather than staying on the trolley. I was also in a side room as I needed to be isolated from other patients. During this time I did not really eat anything.
Eventually I was transferred to an appropriate ward with en-suite side rooms and was able to rest. When I did begin to eat again I was astonished at the high quality of the meals. Gone were the insipid offerings I had previously experienced, now I saw tasty, inviting food with excellent portion size. I cleared my plate on every meal.
The wonderful soup came in huge bowls with plenty of wheaten bread, the curries were flavoursome with the rice perfectly cooked and fluffy. The salads were crisp and fresh.
What an improvement from 'before'. This was nutritious food that looked good and tasted good. Well done to the hospital staff for this massive turnaround.
The only addition I would ask for would be the option of fresh fruit at mealtimes as well.
