I am waiting for a new hip and I am in agony. I am trying to stay in work but it's so incredibly hard. I have other disabilities and the length of time it is taking to get this operation done is having such a serious adverse impact on my health. The issue I want to talk about today is about this new additional layer that seems to have been introduced.
I was told I had to attend this prior to my operation. Due to how poorly I am waiting for this operation, this added a huge amount of stress to my already difficult situation. I was out in a hot room with around 20 other people which I was most unhappy with as I have been trying to stay safe in prep for my op.
The main thing that I want to say is that I found the entire experience was patronising and a waste of time.
I envisaged that I would be learning all about how to look after the new prosthetic but it wasn't that at all. It was a repeat of everything that is in the admissions leaflet.
I don't need to be told to get my shopping in or change my bed before an operation. Everything that was said is given to us in a leaflet.
What would have been more beneficial would be to actually give information on what to do and not to do after an operation.
I found the whole experience of having to get help to get there and physically getting to the hospital quite horrendous.
