"A Solution for Pain"

About: Community Services - North Devon / Community Rehabilitation

(as the patient),

I was perfectly normal when I went to bed. The next morning, I could not move my back, and I struggled to get out of bed. I spent about a month just struggling. I started to get dizzy spells (which I've had before, they've been tentatively diagnosed as either vestibular migraine or Meniere's, but I've not had any in the preceding year and a half). I called the Red Button service and an ambulance came, they sorted me out, and advised me to contact my doctor ASAP.

The next morning a doctor contacted me by phone; eventually I had an in-person visit from a physiotherapist, who managed to fit me in between other appointments. The work of the physiotherapist was amazing. She gave me exercises, which I do, and she has set up improvements in equipment in my house (handrails) and ordered a four-wheel walker for me. The team were very reassuring, and a joy to work with.

I've since been prescribed medication which (following the doctor's advice) I increased weekly. My pain is still bad on some days, but I get good days.

The physiotherapist and her team will now take me off their list, but I can still ring if and when I need them. They feel that if I keep up my exercises and my medication, I will continue to improve further. The above narrative covers a period of about four months.

Many thanks for taking the time to provide some feedback. I am sorry to hear you had such awful symptoms of pain and dizziness.

I am so pleased to hear that things are improving following an holistic assessment from a community physiotherapist and glad the exercises, support and help you received has made things easier for you. I hope things continue to improve for you and I'm sure the team involved would be happy to support you again if things change.

Wishing you all the best with further recovery.

Susan
