"days on coniston ward"

About: Arnold Lodge Regional Secure Unit

(as the patient),

The ward was quiet and as it was the weekend nearly all the patients was in bed. There was lots of line of sights on the ward and when the patients started to get up they got there diamond arts out for the staff and patients to do. They all stated laughing and joking whilst doing it, there was a range of pictures from animation to animals. I remember doing one of venom from a marvel film for one of the patients birthday, it was so dark it was one of the hardest ones that i had ever done.

When it was bingo day we all used to get excited as once everybody had won anybody could win on the last game, so we were all trying to beat each other. Thursdays were the worst at 10 am we had a singing group me personally did not join in as to start with it sounded like cats being strangled but it soon improved. Apart from a lot of diamond art we would play board games including Rummicub and scrabble, me and the structured day nurse would compete to see who could win the once i was 50 points behind when i got my last 7 tiles and managed to get a 7 letter word which gave me 62 points.Community meetings were a nightmare as if you brought up a topic which someone took personally they would get up and walk off.

We have 2 side rooms where we do our 1:1's and activities. I like to keep myself busy by doing recovery college courses as i like getting of the ward. We look forward to our CPA's as we get to find out about any future progress and where we might be moving to.Ward rounds are fortnightly where we can challenge our doctors about our care these keep us motivated to get out of hospital.Generally the ward is a nice place to be we spend lots of time talking to each other about our families and friends which makes us feel normal. Most patients get visits from there families which gives them the motivation to get out and be with them. Patients like to work towards getting themselves leave so that they can get outside of the hospital and get exercise and fresh air. The staff are all very caring and try there best to meet our needs even when they are under staffed. We all look forward to our 117 meetings so that we can move on and get on with our outside life.

Thank you for taking your time to provide such a lovely and detailed feedback. We really appreciate the sentiments and acknowledgement you have given in your communication. Furthermore, it is nice to hear your positive appreciation for staff hard work and make sure patients needs are met.

We will share this with Coniston nursing team and MDT. Thank you again.
