I recently spend some time in Lomond ward after a suicide attempt. While on the ward I met a member of staff who has helped me more than I could have imagined, despite only being on the ward for 2 of the days I was there.
After a brief chat when she introduced herself to me, I knew instantly that she got me. For the first time in my life I felt understood. Her advice and support will stick with me, and help me find my way.
She recommended a book for me to read. Now that I’ve finished the book, I finally feel less alone. I’ve spent 23 years feeling different and like I don’t belong. Lauren knew this book would resonate with me and I’m so glad she told me to get it. It’s given me the motivation to find my place in this world, and try not to give up just yet.
She had my back in the ward when I had a meltdown. She knew how to handle it and made me feel less ashamed of my behaviour.
It’s rare that I feel like someone truly listens to me, but with Lauren I finally felt heard.
I’m hoping my message will get back to her, and that her compassion will be recognised, as it deserves to be.
"I finally felt heard"
