As someone who is used to several hours a week of full on exercise from walking and swimming, to HIIT training and Kettlebells, after imposed rest from having had a hysterectomy for uterine cancer, I was feeling emotionally as well as physically depressed.
The Macmillan team in the cancer centre put me in touch with Joe who provided online and live physical activity coaching to people post surgery and/or having radio or chemotherapies.
Joe's program was pitched at exactly the right level to get a person back on their feet. In addition it was controlled in such a way as to prevent someone like myself overdoing things too quickly.
This program is only being offered on a temporary basis, but it should be made permanent to offer outpatients still undergoing regular treatment to set up a routine of exercising that encourages a speedier recovery.
THANKS JOE and the Belfast Health Trust!
