I was taken into NDDH by ambulance with a severe bowel infection. Admitted to Capener Ward, I was cared for by the Gastro Medics working closely with the Gastro Surgeons. The infection was so serious I was close to sepsis. The two teams liaised together to ensure the risk to need surgery was minimised. Eventually the combination of antibiotics, drips and infusions worked and my health improved.
Meanwhile I was able to examine how the ward team worked. My impression was one of superb team working. The nursing staff were efficient, courteous and caring. The ancillary staff cleaning and catering worked seamlessly and in harmony to keep the ward clean and to deliver really delicious and nutritious food, hot or cold tasty and well presented.
My admiration of the more junior nursing team, the Health Care Assistants, knows no bounds. The team are, to be honest, not well paid but their cheerful demeanour raised my spirits everyday. I should like to commend, in particular, a HCA, Emma, whose caring and professional demeanour is exemplary. Of course a team like this doesn't just exist, Management is required and I observed team meetings and one to ones going on. The efficiency of all the healthcare and nursing teams were noted.
Thank You the gastro teams, medical and surgical, the nursing and auxiliary Teams.
"Superb team working"
