"Outstanding Paediatric Department"

About: Bradford Royal Infirmary

We rushed our son into A&E around 9:30am on Friday morning with suspected appendicitis. The paediatric team in A&E were lovely and quick to treat our son. He was moved to the Children's Decisions Area on Ward 32 where he received pain relief and doctor diagnosis. He was then moved to Ward 30 where he could rest in a proper bed under nurse observation whilst waiting to see the surgical team. The surgeon came to see our son at around 5:30pm and told us he would be having the surgery to remove his appendix the same day, the anaesthetist then came to see him around 6:30pm and then he was taken to theatre at 8pm. The surgical team were phenomenal, not only did they make our son feel reassured that everything would be ok, they also did a great job at reassuring me too. I cannot thank the whole team enough.

Hi

My name is Catherine and part of my role is responding to posts on Care Opinion.

Firstly, apologies for the late reply I have been on leave.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback following your son's attendance at Paediatric Accident & Emergency, this must have been a very worrying time for all of you.

It is great to hear that the staff were lovely and your son was treated quickly and following assessment and pain relief on ward 32, was moved to ward 30 in preparation for his surgery.

I am pleased to hear that your son's surgery was undertaken later the same day and that you felt the surgical team had been phenomenal and did a great job at reassuring you at a very worrying time.

I will share your feedback with all the teams involved, I am sure they will appreciate your comments.

As a Trust we strive to provide excellent care and patient well being and it is reassuring to have such positive feedback.

Kind regards

Catherine Healy
