We are very lucky at Rampton to have access to the Made Purple platform. This platform allows us access to a wealth of information and services, many of which would've been unheard of in a high secure hospital just a few years ago.
One such function provided by Made Purple is online shopping. This will allow patients on their wards or day-centres to go onto a secure website such as JD Sports, browse all the items available for adults (while using an AI algorithm to remove images of minors), add their chosen item to their "Purple Basket", then pay for their order directly using their "Purple Wallet".
You can imagine the sense of freedom, self-control and self-reliance this ability will grant to patient. Some of whom have never done electronic shopping before.
The issue at the moment is that while we have access to a number of shopping sites, this is only for browsing. We have no ability to place any orders.
The Trust is focusing on such things as granting us access to CQC reports and enabling meal ordering etc. Patients however, are prioritising the online shopping. We appreciate been given access to site such as the CQC, NHS England and NICE, but access to the shopping is our key priority. We would ask hospital and Trust managers to accelerate the roll-out of the shopping service and keep in mind that patients see this as a key target for 2024.
"The need for online shopping."
