"Post menopausal bleeding clinic"

About: Perth Royal Infirmary / Radiology (X-rays and Scans) Post-Menopausal Bleeding Specialist Nurses

(as the patient),

I experienced a friendly and efficient service from Sonya and Donna. They put me at ease in what can be quite a stressful situation. I appreciated being able to talk to someone about my condition, get an ultrasound and then talk about the result all at the same time. There's also something nice about getting changed "on the spot" just off the consulting/US room rather than hanging about in a surgical gown feeling exposed, as I've had to do in the main radiology dept. I like that you have to ring a bell to get into the department - you just know there's no one randomly wandering about. I didn't see any male staff which is a good thing in that situation, as I would send them out. It was great that Sonya was explaining to me all the time what she was seeing on the screen and turned the screen round so I could see. Also Sonya and Donna were happy for me to know their names. Previously when I've been to the main radiology dept, the sonographer didn't wear a name badge on either occasion, which I don't like. All in all I felt much more comfortable in gynaecology outpatients.

Dear cafe206,

Thank you for your valuable feedback. It is much appreciated as helps us to improve our services.

My name is Margaret, and I am responsible for the radiology ultrasound service.

Radiology is a large service that multiple specialities access (not just women), but we do try really hard to make all our patients feel comfortable when attending for ultrasound. I am sorry that this was not your experience, but we always try to accommodate specific patient requests regarding male or female staff.

I apologise that name badges were not worn and I will reinforce this with my staff, as this is against policy. Also, staff should be introducing themselves. Please be reassured that I will remind staff of this too.

If you would like to email me about your past experienced attendances to radiology, perhaps I can look into in more detail (margaret.taylor6@nhs.scot).

Many thanks again, and I wish you all the best in your diagnostic journey and a swift return to full health,

best wishes,

Mgt
