"My Long Covid journey"

About: Ayrshire Central Hospital / Neurology Crosshouse Hospital Crosshouse Hospital / Cardiac Day Unit Crosshouse Hospital / Neurology General practices in Ayrshire & Arran Nuffield Health Occupational Therapy

(as the patient),

I caught covid in Dec’21 and never recovered. My covid symptoms were mild and I rested well when I was Ill. My symptoms started about 3 weeks after initial infection and have continued to this day.

I had sever tingling in my head after any activity and by May ‘22 I was unable to do anything to try and prevent the tingling. I was sent for brain CT and MRI scans, which were normal. My doctor was sympathetic but could offer no medical help. By this point I also suffered from rapid heart rate, body jolts, body tremors, unable to sleep, neurological difficulties and PESE. I had to watch the foods I ate as I noticed my symptoms worsened after eating certain food/drink.

I was sent for a heart scan which also came back ok.

My own GP could offer nothing medical to alleviate the symptoms. I was referred to an OT who was excellent but could not offer anything to alleviate the symptoms. I started the Nuffield Rehabilitation Course which I believe kick started a recovery of sorts. I attended the Long Covid Clinic at Crosshouse Hospital but they were unable to offer any support, as I was already doing everything they would have suggested.

I had to refer myself to a private GP, specialising in Long Covid last year. She has changed my life for the better by prescribing antihistamines and LDN. I can now tolerate weight bearing exercise but not aerobic exercise. I can walk distances, do gardening etc. However, I am still struggling with my short-term memory, concentration and sensory overload.

I have just had to give up my job.
