"I have no means of getting there"

About: Lawson Memorial Hospital / Outpatients Department

(as the patient),

I had an appointment at the radiology dept. Golspie Lawson recently. Whilst the two members of staff were very helpful and understanding, the problem of getting there was extremely stressful. I have no means of getting there, no car and no public transport. I had to cancel an appointment at Caithness General for this reason. The two ladies concerned  went out of their way to get me in at Golspie but although a lot nearer the problem still remained. In the end I had to book an expensive taxi which I can ill afford being in my 80s, living alone after the death of my partner. Isn't there some system to prevent this?

Thank you for your post highlighting the difficulty you experience regarding access to transportation to attend appointments.

Patient transport is under the management of the Scottish Ambulance Service therefore we are unable to comment on the lack of transport provision within your locality. It may be worth contacting them so that they can offer you any guidance on any other transport services which my operate near to your home address.

I understand from Kirstin MacKay, Team Leader at Lawson Memorial Hospital, that she offered you an apology at the time of your attendance and for the inconvenience and difficulty you experienced.
