"Children's a&e poor experience"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow)

We attended children's a&e and staff were helpful, efficient and organised. We found the individual who cared for our child to be more adequate than the doctor we waited several hours to see. Unfortunately, the doctor had a bad attitude and was condesending, rude and did not even know why our child was there. The doctor accused my toddler of 'not liking doctors' because he was crying. He had been very unwell all day, exhausted and was very unhappy. Anyone with children or just common sense will know that even a couple hours waiting in a confined space is a long time for a sick toddler. We also had our infant with us. However, the doctor was unhappy, and informed me that its only been a few hours and normally she make children wait 8 hours before she agrees to see them in a&e. This is really concerning, appalling and embrassing for the NHS. It is also an inappropriate comment to make to a parent of a patient. The doctor also rolled her eyes often and spoke in a sarcastic tone of voice. We had concerns that a separate issue may have been causing our sons illness, for which the doctor quite rudely said to go to the gp. After 2 minutes, the doctor left. We felt very let down and the doctor let down the staff who had done a great job. The department, and the NHS generally is full of posters that we must respect the staff, but the staff often use that to their advantage to treat patients poorly.
