"Even from the tone of his voice I felt at ease"

About: Crisis Services / 111 Service – Mental Health Option

(as the patient),

I was dealing with issues at work which led to my mental health severely deteriorating. I contemplated in giving 111 a call but I felt like I postponed for long enough as it has been ongoing since last year and this year. I was experiencing issues with my mental health to the point this took the joy out of me going into work, and has affected badly with my situation at home and at the time my wife was heavily pregnant - she has given birth few weeks ago!

When I called NHS, a person introduced himself as Derek. He was approachable from the off, and even from his tone of voice I felt at ease and was inclined to share the experiences I have been through and how this has affected me. He had given an abundance of his time, as I repeatedly said I feel someone else may have benefited from this time with him but he assured that I equally needed the attention and I have postponed long enough. For me, I have tried to manage my mental health as much as possible but it was to the point that it is constant at work and where it affected things at home I felt like I needed to do something about it.

Derek gave me the right advices, and he also shared some resources which I found useful. I shared a few unfortunate experiences at work and Derek understood it all, and he gave me time to explain it all. His advices were spot on and was relatable.

I am fortunate Derek picked the call up, and he gave concise advice where I noted down exactly what needs to be happen. I then proceeded with his advice and felt better for it. Thank you Derek and hope you are able to help with other people in need. Mental health issue needs to be taken seriously and people like Derek is an asset to the NHS.
