"The team are fantastic"

About: Perth Royal Infirmary / Clinical Investigations Unit

(as a service user),

Diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2018 and started infliximab. I go for infusions once every 6 weeks. The team are fantastic and always very friendly. A few months ago, we were moved to a new area for infusions and the team are still fantastic, but the toilet is very small. This makes it difficult to access when attached to the infusion. My infusion takes place over 2 hours, and I’m typically in the unit for 4 hours. It would be good if the toilet could be expanded so it’s easier to access.

Dear Emmfk47

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on care opinion, highlighting the fantastic and friendly team at CIU PRI.

You have also fed back that, and that the bathroom in the unit is small, particularly if you have an infusion. This is something that we were aware of when we moved from our previous location last year. We do have a bigger, disabled access bathroom adjacent to the unit, for patients to use, if they require additional space for infusions, have any mobility issues, including the need to use walking aids or for wheel chair users. For this reason, we have not increased the size of the toilet within the unit.

Please accept my apologies that staff did not inform you of, or show you to, the bigger bathroom, which would no doubt have made your stay with us a more positive one. I will share your feedback with the team today, and continue to encourage the team to inform patients that there is a bigger bathroom available to use, should they require it, for any reason.

Thank you once again for your feedback

Best wishes

Dear Emmfk47

Thank you for your feedback in response to this we have made a small change to the toilet area. There is now a lock on the main door into the toilet, this avoids the need to close and lock the door in the small area. This has been tested over this week and the feedback we are receiving from patients are positive.

There is signage on all patient tables to inform them that there is a larger toilet available in the adjacent unit that we can either guide or assist a patient to it they would prefer.

I hope when you attend for your next appointment you will find access to the toilets easier.

Best wishes

Janice Milne
