"Health Visitors are unsung heroes"

Aisling Burns, Lisburn City Practice - Health Visitors are unsung heroes

I gave birth to my son in early 2024. He was failing to gain weight and my HV came every week to weigh and check his progress. When he was 9 weeks old he was admitted to the RVH with bronchitis and discharged a week later. My HV called the next day and agreed that he needed immediate medical attention, she arranged for the GP to see him immediately and then he was admitted to the Ulster with sepsis and whooping cough. We nearly lost him a few times but 17 days later he was well enough to come home. During his time in hospital my HV rang daily to check on myself and baby. Days/weeks after his discharge I started to struggle with my mental health and my HV was quick to notice and has went above and beyond to get me the necessary help and support. I can't thank her enough and praise what an amazing woman she is at her job.

Dear M Brown

My name is Conor Campbell. My position is Senior Manager, Assurance and Improvement with a leading role in improving the service user experience - which includes responding to any person who tells their story through Care Opinion in order to help the organisation learn and improve.

Thank you for sharing the story of the experience that you have had along with your baby son in the care of Lisburn Health Visiting Team.

It is great to learn that your quality of care and experience has been of the standard that we aspire to.

It is so important to be looked after with expertise and compassion when we are in need and Aisling has certainly shown herself to be a hero in this regard. We are so lucky to have Aisling and people like her.

I have shared your positive feedback to the Aisling and the team who greatly appreciate your kind words and are glad to know that this service – and particularly Aisling - has been so positive and helpful to you.

I wish only the best for you and your son going forward.

Best wishes

Conor
