"The highest standard of care and quality of treatment"

I would like to take some time to commend and express my profound gratitude to my neurologist Dr Soane, Nurse Thompson, the anesthesiology team (especially Sonia) and Nurse Debbie for providing me with the highest standard of care and quality of treatment recently.

I had a scheduled consultation with Dr Soane regarding ongoing investigations into my IIH diagnosis. I was met in a timely and friendly manner by the consultant and was made to feel at ease. I felt seen and listened to, which I can't stress how relived and supported this made me feel. Especially during this very uncertain and worrying time.

Dr Soane was expertly prepared and had clearly taken the time to ensure he was familiar with my previous medical history. He was meticulous in his investigative questioning and physical examination. Dr Soane also made sure to take time in explaining my condition and answering any questions I had. This was invaluable for me. Dr Soane also set my expectations in regards to treatment and gave me a clear understanding of what my treatment plan will look like. This made me feel supported, motivated and gave me back a little control over this very difficult time in my life.

I was then scheduled for an immediate LP and transferred into the care of the incredible Nurse Thompson. Not only did he set my mind at ease with his amazing patient facing attitude, he also organised and diligently arranged my treatment. He made sure all the I's were dotted and T's crossed. I felt that I was in expert hands and he was there to support and oversee my treatment every step of the way. I cannot express how thankful I am to him enough.

After a very traumatic, painful and unsuccessful LP attempt recently, I was in a heightened state of anxiety at the thought of another. When I met the two assistants and my anaesthetist Sonia, I immediately felt relieved and supported from the very beginning. This team delivered the absolute highest standard of care I have received within the NHS. Sonia handled my procedure with proficiency and it is clear she is an expert in her profession. Her skill, patience and knowledge made this unpleasant procedure as quick and painless as possible. I never doubted I was in the best hands and I am so very grateful Sonia performed my LP.

The assistants attending were outstanding in supporting me through a very disregulated state and gave me all of the support and care I needed to get through this. I cannot thank them enough for their kindness, words of comfort, patience and allowing me to crush their hands. They were crucial in getting me through this very difficult procedure. Thank you.

My aftercare was followed up by Nurse Debbie. Her bedside manner was incredibly supportive and caring. It made me quickly forget I had a needle sticking out of my spine 5 minutes prior. She made me laugh when I needed it most and eased my uncertainties. I'm sure without this aftercare, I wouldn't have recovered as quickly as I have.

I really wish to thank all of those above. I am so very fortunate to have had this incredible team of practitioner's who listened, supported and cared for me at my most vulnerable. Thank you!
