A relative of mine was admitted to hospital by her GP due to complications of a pre existing condition. She was in Ward 103 and as a healthcare professional myself I can honestly say I have never seen such poor care, my relative needed help to have a wash and freshen up but was told by a nurse they are not there to do everything for her.
My relative was simply unable to do this for herself or she would have! She was then afraid to ask for anything and waited for family to visit before she would ask for anything that she needed help with.
This is completely unacceptable for a patient to be made to feel this way whilst in hospital feeling scared and vulnerable as it is!
One day when we arrived she was crying in pain, she had been pain killers and when she said she needed them the nurse said she would go get them but 2 hours later still no pain relief until my husband spoke to someone!
She also has medication that she takes for her condition daily and she did not get this at the correct time as the staff were running late.
Whilst I understand the pressures on the NHS it is not okay for patients to not be getting their medication or not get it at the correct time.
As a family, our interactions with the nursing staff were also of concern. The ones we spoke with did not seem interested or made us feel a nuisance for asking basic things. It feels like there is a very low morale within this ward
