"Poor advice"

About: GPs in Doncaster

(as a service user),

I contacted my GP for ear pain and asked for otomize ear spray which they normally just prescribe as I’ve had it in the past. However I was asked to do a self ear swab which I did. I waited 4 days and had to chase the results because I was in pain on the Friday morning to be told the results are back and the with the GP and they will contact me and to use olive oil in the meantime. Nothing happened.

Chased again Monday morning as I could see the gp has reported on them over the weekend. Waited hours for a reply and received a txt to say the lab have suggested self care using localised cleansing. I replied to ask for clarity as this doesn’t explain what I need to do, to receive another txt saying it means clean the area. As I have an internal fungal ear infection I’m not sure how I’m meant to do this so rang for clarity as I’m not meant to poke anything in my ear? To be told the same and the advice is correct. When I said that I wasn’t happy with that advice they then said they would ask the GP for advice and get back to me. I was also told I shouldn’t be using olive oil with an infection although this was the advice on Friday from them. After a call back I was advised not to use olive oil and to ring in the morning to make a GP appointment as the Gp needs to look at my ear. It’s a bit concerning the poor advice I have received .
