"Broken equipment"

About: Whitehills Health & Community Care Centre / Minor Injuries Whitehills Health and Community Care Centre / X-rays and Scans

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was assessed by Jen at WHCCC with a foot injury. She was very thorough and explained what she was doing really clearly as she went which we appreciated.

He needs an X-ray but unfortunately is not able to get this in Forfar as the machine is broken and has been for some time. We have to wait and go to Arbroath which means I have to take more time off work and work out transport through.

Thankyou to Jen but please sort out the Forfar X-ray situation, it is a much needed resource!

Dear Deploymentsb59,

Thanks for taking the time for submitting this response.

I am sorry for the delay caused to you and your son and the anguish this caused.

The equipment in Whitehills is reaching the end of its useful life and repair costs are significant.

The current unit is staffed where possible 3 days a week and mostly deals with appointed outpatient and minor injury patients. At this time, three is a national shortage of radiographers, and it is more sustainable to operate from larger sites to provide better service coverage.

We are reviewing the service options with key stakeholders regarding the future of this service within the wider Angus Radiology service provision.

Regards

Mike

Dear deploymentsb59

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your story on care opinion. I'm sorry to hear that your son had a foot injury that needed reviewed at Forfar Minor Injuries and Illness unit (MIIU).

Jen is a very experienced nurse who always goes above and beyond with all her patients to ensure that they receive excellent, safe patient care. Its very reassuring to hear that you felt your son had a thorough assessment and a good explanation was given.

Unfortunately as Mike has explained we don't have any x-ray facilities at the moment in Forfar so all MIIU patients who need an x-ray, need to attend Arbroath for this. I do understand that this is not convenient for everyone and hopefully the radiology dept will be able to help with a resolution soon.

I hope your son's foot injury improves and I will certainly pass on your kind words to Jen. Thank you again for submitting your response on care opinion we really appreciate your time.

Kind Regards

Anne
