To cut a long story short, I recently had a right hip replacement and this feedback is to do with the aftercare on the ward (Ward 10A) and not the surgery. I had a left hip replacement 3 years ago, so I have experience to compare this to in a different hospital and the previous experience was a million miles away from the most recent one.
I got taken to the ward from recovery and nobody helped me, no body helped me sit up in bed and no body even came to check to see if I needed the loo-in fact I fell in loo and I lay there for 1.5 hrs.
The clinical support staff were absolutely fabulous but I found the nursing staff abominable - they didn’t seem to care, didn’t seem to want to help, and everything felt like a problem.
When I came out of hospital I realised I had never been treated like this before-and I felt so neglected.
I was so aware of warnings about hip operations and wanting to make sure that I was careful that I felt I needed some physical help, but there was none. It felt like a very neglectful experience and I was shocked.
"I felt neglected"
