"I'm thrilled I can now hear all his little anecdotes clearly"

About: Women, Children and Family Services / Speech and Language Therapy - Children

(as a parent/guardian),

My little son was a lockdown baby and his speech was slow at progressing. I was anxious about this when, having finished nursery and started Primary School his words were still not clear to strangers and often family.

I knew there would be a long wait when he was referred to Speech Therapy and this was the case. However when we commenced Speech Therapy things couldn't have gone better.

My little boy is naturally very shy yet his therapist Shauna put him immediately at ease and he adored his weekly visits.

The sessions were very productive and Shauna made the techniques easy to understand for me and great fun for my son.

I am thrilled to say I can now hear all his little anecdotes clearly and his friends and teachers can easily communicate with him!

My name is Rosie Sleator and I'm the Service Lead for Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy. Many thanks for taking the time to post this story about your experience of Speech and Language Therapy and specifically with Shauna. I'm delighted that you have had such a positive experience and your son has made such good progress and is able to communicate effectively with his friends and teachers. Its such an encouragement for all of our Speech and Language Therapists to know that what they are doing is making a practical, every day difference to the children they work with. Many thanks again and best wishes to you and your son.

Rosie Sleator, Service Lead, Paediatric SLT, NHSCT.
