"Car Parking"

About: East Surrey Hospital

(as a relative),

Yesterday I had to visit East Surrey Hospital it took 1 hour to get from the traffic lights on the main road to actually parking my car. I spent 2 hours in the hospital then it took 45 minutes to get out of the car park to start my journey home.

Could I make a suggestion that you change the out to the in and traffic would go out of what now is the exit which would make it so much easier to get into the flow of traffic this way around.

To get out of the car park yesterday I had to block the road with my car before any of the out going traffic would let me in.

It took me another 20 minutes to get back to the traffic lights on the main road.

This needs looking at with some urgency there must be patients missing appointment times which then impacts on other areas of the hospital

I'm sorry that you had such a poor experience with parking at East Surrey Hospital.

We have two issues that have come together that have added significantly to the problem you outlined in your comment. Firstly we have insufficient car parking spaces. This has been recognised and we now have planing permission to increase the number of spaces on-site by nearly 300. Work on this should commence in 2014.

Secondly there are currently road works taking place on the traffic lights on the junction outside the hospital. This work, which will replace all the traffic lights with more modern equipment and is mananged by Surrey County Council, has added to the problems by making access to and from the site more difficult than usual. Only today I discussed this problem with the council and they tell me the works will be complete by the 29th November. It is frustrating that this has added to access to and from the hospital but clearly we would support the work being undertaken to improve local roads and are pleased that it will be complete so quickly.

Dear Fed up with Parking

Thought you might like an update about your concerns regarding parking. We have increased patient car parking by 20% this week and although this is a quieter time of year there have been no queues this week for the patient and visitor car park. We have also introduced some mother and baby parking as well as increasing the disabled bays near the Main Entrance.

Although it is early days we hope this has made difference and we remain fully committed to ensuring that patients and visitors don't have the added stress that you outline above.
