"Fracture arm and broken rib"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

I was treated kindly by the lady who took my details. I fell off my bicycle and walked to the hospital. After the fall I'd walked home with my bike and tried to do some gentle stretches in the house. When the pain was increasing in my arm and side though I decided to go to the hospital. A last resort for me because I understand the services are experiencing unprecedented levels of patients now and the staff are becoming increasingly over worked and dispirited. Which I is why I applaud the nurses and staff who took care of me.

I had an X-ray done on my arm. It's not my first cup of tea when it comes to Xrays but I did find it difficult to straighten out my arm. We needed a good image of my arm so the doctor could make a diagnosis. After a wee bit of effort we got there in the end though.

After the x-ray I was seen to by another nurse. I was informed that I wouldn't need a sling because I had some movement in the arm. I did however acquire myself a gator I think it's called. The doctors surgery gave me one because I wanted it visible to people around me that I had an injury so they knew to treat me with care. I wore it for only a couple of days though.

I've been doing the breathing exercises as advised by the hospital and I've also been doing my own upper body stretches. They work on getting the blood and energy of the body flowing. I'm feeling like I'm on the mend now.

I wouldn't usually leave a review like this but if it's helpful then I'm happy about that. I work in hospitality and I know it's appreciated when a tip is received or a compliment for a job well done. All the best.

Dear Mr McOuchy

I am sorry to hear about your accident and I hope you are feeling better. As you have mentioned the department is incredibly busy but such positive feedback makes all the difference to staff, so thank you on their behalf.

I am glad that you are doing your exercises at home and hopefully this speeds up your recovery.

Best wishes

Nicole
