"Patient safety"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / General medicine Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Oral and maxillofacial surgery

(as a relative),

My relative has been in ward a12 FV total hospital. They have oral cancer. They were recently moved to  shared ward The Kelpies.

The locker beside their bed is in a state of disrepair, broken shelves missing drawer , unlocked drawer. I had to take all of their medication into hospital. My problem at this time is that their medication is in the easily accessible unlocked drawer.

A visitor alerted the ward staff who assured them this health and safety issue would be dealt with immediately. This was during the afternoon and made me aware, however that evening I visited and was horrified that things were still the same. This is a busy ward and anyone could help themselves to whatever is in there.  I am petrified because they also have a peg feed and the pump is currently held together with elastic bands.

Dear tigerpp49

Thank you for sharing your views with us on your experience of visiting the ward and the condition of the locker next to your relative, and the concern you have around the health and safety aspects.

I know staff will be upset and concerned regarding your comments and I would be grateful if you could please contact Elaine MacDonald, Senior Charge Nurse for Ward A12 on 01324 567281.

Kind Regards

Caroline

Update posted by tigerpp49 (a relative)

I spoke to Elaine yesterday and reassured her that this is not a reflection on her staff.

They did move him to his own room. Unfortunately all bedside cabinets are in the same state in this ward, a disgrace.
