My elderly Mum (in her 70s and diabetic) had had a fall and cut her arm in several places. Since it was the weekend she phoned 111. She was on the phone to them for over an hour. A Dr phoned back about 20 minutes later and advised her to attend Wishaw General, to have her arm attended to as she would probably need stitches, and that the hospital would be expecting her. On arrival she was triaged within 10/15 minutes. However despite the hospital expecting her and the a & e department seemed relatively quiet when we arrived, she still had to wait for almost 5 hours before her arm was dressed. Which we felt really defeated the purpose of of using the 111 service.
