"Coventry Walsgrave - like Monty Python only not…"

About: University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust

Human rights issues at Coventry Walsgrave Hospital. Unsafe. Some staff appear conditioned, to see patients as an inconvenience & have suppressed any caring gene they may have had. Before I go on, I’ll say that, there’ll be some good, kind, talented folk working at Walsgrave, but they're hamstrung by the colossal administrative mess. My review is based on a number of visits including a two stays and laterly an A&E visit assisting an elderly friend.

Latest occasion, my elderly friend had a nasty head injury, & was horribly confused at home (also has heart failure and dementia) I tried to get ambulance via 999. Was told that, & it’s quite common, to be a 9 hour wait for ambulance & it would be quicker to take her myself. Took friend to Walsgrave in my car, but I’d never do it again. Got there. It was like Fred Carno’s. No parking available near A&E. Chaos. Signs saying you’d be fined if you park in wrong place. Friend couldn’t walk. Fainting, cracked ribs, massive bruises all over her face. Tried to get a wheel chair. No-one to ask. A member of public said I could rent a wheel chair from a machine using my credit card which was nightmare trying to work out. (I'm autistic) Receptionist in main area - an miserable person who treated like criminals. Told us to go through minor injuries. A nicer person there took my friend up to A&E & also a porter agreed to return the rented wheelchair.

A&E needs closing down. Boiling hot. Rammed. No spare seats. Nurse yelling that we all had to wait at least 14 hours to be seen. Finally got my elderly friend a chair. Man opposite told us he had a huge hangover was vomiting into a paper hat. He had Delirium tremens. A girl was laid flat out on the floor on a towel unconcious. We saw at least two people crash in front of us & fall sideways out of their chairs. Old folk covered in blood, shaking not being helped. People with broken bones who said they’d been there hours with no pain relief. One patient with heart failure, said she, had been there 24 hours waiting for a bed. I got my friend food & drink from Smiths, worried she faint again. The cherry on top of this horrible pie is we can’t hold anyone accountable. Big hospitals have failed. I was an HR Pracitioner in NHS. I'm aware of management challenges. Why is Cov not in special measures. How low is the bar? It's another Stafford. Longer term solution, go back to smaller hospitals. I've lived in 3rd world country & Cov hospital A&E is at 3rd world levels.

My friend sat up all night in a hard chair before she was seen. She's 85.

Later. I got a msg on phone to say the rented wheelchair was not returned. Already traumatized I rang wheel chair hire company who asked me did I take the wheelchair serial number. Who the heck takes a wheel chair serial number? I was trying to get a very poorly patient into A&E.

Cov Hospital responses in media to allegations of poor care is:, ‘we know it’s frustrating’ Using minimizing words to describe dire treatment is gaslighting us
