"Waiting again"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Endocrinology

(as a service user),

I previously posted  a story with the very same concerns, after waiting for an appointment from first referral in June 2023. After numerous calls to appointments queering the referral process, I was assured my referral had been seen by a consultant, and I had been  placed on a 8-12 month waiting list, due to a backlog and due to my referral being routine.

Still having not been seen by Feb 2024, my GP sent a second referral reminder, having previously requested an ultrasound with another follow up ultrasound before being seen in April.  A further 2 ultrasounds later, I again found myself on a list for a MRI (routine) with a suspicious lump.

A further 4 weeks after numerous phone calls, I managed to get a cancellation then waited a further few weeks to be seen again with results.  My confirmed appointment was 6 weeks after re-referral,  2 weeks after I managed to get a cancellation.

Here I am again... waiting! Going out of my mind on a daily basis , scared and wondering what comes next and how long am I going to wait this time! Trying my hardest to stop myself from falling apart. I'm failing that badly! I'm not normally an anxious person, but I have anxiety, that is through the roof! I'm not coping...

I feel like I'm just a statistic in a system where my fear is very much a reality.

I'm waiting to be seen by a different Health-board region, due to the nature of my concern, with no  further information, no one to call, scared  and going out of my mind. Is this another routine referral where I wait another year to be seen?

Please don't give me any patronising apology. In my experience, your appointment system is not working.  You are failing target times, in my opinion. There has been no urgency placed on individual symptoms, and referrals appear to be left to staff who only look at the word routine or emergency.

You share posts on attending GP if you notice any lumps, bumps or bleeding that is unusual for you, as early intervention is vital to outcome.  Yet, Here I am, waiting again...
