"Signage to department"

About: Radiography services / CT Scans

(as a relative),

My father recently had an appointment to have a CT scan in Craigavon. On arrival the signs to CT Department were followed, dad uses a rollator at the moment because he cannot put any weight on his foot, thankfully he had this as he had to stop on several occasions to rest as he is in constant pain and catch his breath.

Eventually a member of staff was seen and asked how much further, only to be told to keep going and to the right through double doors. Upon reaching this reception it was explained this is the wrong area completely, the girls were very helpful as one of them went and got a wheelchair for dad to sit in and took everyone to the correct location.

There were absolutely no issues with any staff member but for a major hospital to lack correct signage for elderly and disabled people to be sent on a wild goose chase all for the sake of putting a correctly displayed sign up is verging on cruelty. Can someone with some common sense please look into to this to avoid unnecessary long walks for those not fit and able, and no doubt would help staff too.

Thank you for your feedback.I am sorry to hear that your father had such a negative experience attending our department. There were issues with appointment letters that were reverted back to old versions during a system upgrade so your fathers letter did not have the directions to the department attached to it as it should have.

I have since developed a map for patients coming to the CT Department in the future which will be attached to the patients letter and will outline which of the two scanners a patient should attend with directions for each scanner and parking facilities.

Hopefully this will make the visit to our department a better experience for other patients.

Thanks
