"Long wait for mammogram results"

About: Raigmore Hospital / North of Scotland Breast Screening Centre

(as the patient),

I had my first ever mammogram in May (in NHS Highland area) and there were signs up stating that the results would be 4-6 weeks. After 7 weeks had passed, I rang the clinic to see if maybe my letter had gone astray.

The staff member asked the date of the test and snapped back "Oh, we haven't even started looking at those dates yet". I said ok, and was about to ask how long they might be when she said "at least another 3 weeks, sorry about that. Goodbye" and then put the phone down.

As everyone knows, your mind can take you to some dark places whilst you are waiting for health test results and I have had some REALLY bad days. But after that call I am now quite angry, and it has refocused my mind and to try and not get so worked up.

Dear MazzyB

Thank you for feedback noting your experience whilst enquiring about the waiting time for your Mammogram results.

I am sorry to read that the call handler was unhelpful during your conversation when attempting to garnish further information.

I wanted to let you know that I have contacted the Service Manager to highlight your experience and to ask that this matter is reviewed fully.

This is not the experience we wish patients to have.

As your details are not available to us my suggestion would be that, if you do not hear anything from the servie by close of play next week, please contact the Feedback Team, by either calling 01463 705997 or by email at nhshighland.feedback@nhs.scot

Please leave/note your details on these communications and this can be reviewed confidentially for you.

Thank you for letting us know of your experience.

With kind regards

Sylvia
