"Dental care for my son"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Dental

(as a parent/guardian),

We had Helen (the dentist) and Amanda see us at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley. My son had a fall a few weeks back and his tooth had broken vertically into half and was limiting his food intake. We were put on a waiting list by our local dentist as she believed he needed an extraction. We were seen in about 2-3 weeks after the referral, which was so good. Helen was an excellent dentist, so positive and very knowledgeable. Amanda spent a lot of time with my son showing him toys and playing with him while Helen talked me through what has happened to his tooth. She explained that the nerve is exposed, an infection has set in and the tooth had to be removed as soon as possible. We saw her last week and she got us in for a surgery for 3 days after this, which was incredible. As my son was so young, this meant that he needed to be anesthetised. I cannot stress this enough; we have had a fantastic experience from beginning to the end. It was Helen who conducted the surgery on our son and it was done in no time. We were given priority and bumped up as he was quite unwell. Truly fantastic experience beginning to the end! Very grateful for the care we received and my son has had such a positive experience with the doctors that he talks about it like a story. I cannot thank Helen, Amanda and the entire team at the Glasgow Children’s Hospital.

Dear tucanaxn95,

Thank you for taking the time to get in contact to let us know the journey that you and your son have been on recently.

We are delighted to receive such positive comments and we will bring your feedback to the attention of Helen, Amanda and the wider team who have supported the care provided.

Dental pain and distress is difficult to cope with at any time but much more so when the patient is young. We hope that your child is now well on the way to recovery and that you have been encouraged by the dental care offered.

Best Wishes

Karen
