"I got a staph infection stright after having my son"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

I had a staph infection as soon as I had my son, I unfortunately had a emergency C section.

In my experience, the aftercare on Summerfield unit in ARI was absolutely shocking. It was over crowded, understaffed and most of the time I had students attending to me (which I didn't mind) until one of them actually took my baby away from me while I was pumping. She said she was just popping to the office and would be straight back. I pumped for 20mins and she still wasn't back so I went looking for her. She was stood in the staff room seemingly having a gossip with the other staff. I walked in and took my baby from her.

Being so sleep deprived and full of drugs still, I had texted my husband very early hours of the morning, being extremely paranoid telling him I think they stole our baby and replaced him with another.

Another night she asked if she could take my baby to the staff office again and I told her no he's no leaving my sight. Many other things happened during my first stay.

My 2nd stay when I had to go back in because of the infection was much better but I was on the ashgrove unit (had my own room) I fully understand it is understaffed and lots of things go on and emergencies come in etc but sometimes they do neglect some patients more then others.

The whole experience pretty much gave me PTSD.  My mental health took a huge impact and I was very mentally ill when I eventually got home.

There isn't enough done to help and support new mums in my opinion. And by the looks of things certain staff members are not being trained accordingly or they just choose to please themselves.

I suppose if your paying for something you should receive better treatment.
