"My labour and birth"

I went into spontaneous labour at night. In the morning I was admitted at 3cm dilated. The midwives, students and other staff members did their best in offering me support, pain relief options and changing positions for birth. When I was trying to push my baby wasn’t moving and I was offered assisted delivery which I accepted. My baby was born with help. Then my blood pressure dipped and I lost a lot of blood 1600ml. The dr and nurses worked very quickly to stitch the episiotomy and help me stabilise. They talked through with me what happened, why it happened and what they did to fix me. Afterwards I had to stay for 3 days to receive fluids and blood transfusions. It was very quick and sudden from being in labour to having a baby beside me. My birthing partners went home for the night and I was too weak to care for my son. The night staff let me rest while they took care of my baby and once I was more able they let me hold him after hours of not being able to. Over the weekend numerous staff checked in on me, my baby and the room. They helped me change myself, feed my baby, give pain relief and were always eager to help me with any questions or requests I had. Each person was very helpful, took time to explain my and my babies testing and progression and made sure I was healing well. I am very grateful for their support and how they treated me. It made such a difference when I was struggling with being in hospital as someone who has never been in hospital before. I cannot thank them enough for the care I received.
