"Truly remarkable improvements"

About: Babington Hospital Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust / Community nursing Florence Nightingale Community Hospital / Dermatology

(as a carer),

This appointment had been hastily arranged and I was confused who we were seeing and when but Catherine’s reassuring presence and calm and Keisy’s willingness to help mum negotiate the toilet and deal with her dressing change made a difficult procedure easy, clearly understood and pain free.

Dr Soo Min Yap was very impressive too with her management and care of mum’s long standing wound. It has reduced significantly in size thanks to DCHS District Nursing Team input, mainly Carol, Helen and Pam alternating UrgoClean and Iodoflex dressings.

It was unfortunate we ran into so many problems with Wound Care at Babington, despite some excellent staff there operating in less than appropriate circumstances with limited support. The improvements in recent months have been truly remarkable and given mum a new lease of life which in her nineties, she thoroughly deserves.

I also want to thank Ange, a lovely volunteer who greeted mum and me as we entered the hospital. She could see mum was struggling and immediately offered her a wheelchair and proceeded to take her to our destination in Dermatology Outpatients. It was so appreciated given I’d got mum’s bag, and she was struggling to stand with her wheels. The friendliness and attentiveness of all staff at London Road was so very much appreciated. Thank you.

Nurses Catherine and Keisy thank you again for your can do attitude and resilience under pressure. It means so much to have such skilled and dedicated nurses looking after mum. Keisy is a trained nurse, but her qualifications are not yet recognised here and we have so many excellent people like her working roles that don’t reflect their true level of competence. I hope we invest more in staffing at all levels and truly value those who go above and beyond because they care and they truly love their job and the people they meet in often trying and confusing circumstances.

Thank you and best wishes to both of you amazing people and all volunteers like Ange who give their time because they want to make a difference and they do in so many brilliant ways too.

New chairs in the cafe are a welcome addition. Food was excellent as always and catering staff are very attentive too.

Thank you to all who have contributed so much to mum’s care and wellbeing.
