"Saved me"

About: Glasgow Dental Hospital and School / Emergency Dental Treatment Centre Level 1

(as a service user),

I had a disintegrated molar that very suddenly resulted in torturous episodes of debilitating pain. Without prompt or stimuli, it would hit instantly and had me screaming, crying, and unable to see properly. The pain was literally THE worst pain I've ever encountered.

I had a dental appointment to have the tooth extracted on the Wednesday, but this was Monday afternoon and after four episodes lasting about 10 minutes each time, I couldn't go on. Something had to be done. I cannot stress how bad the pain was. I was in fear of it just setting off at any given time. Anyway, we called NHS 24 around 6pm and after a quick call back from the dental nurse, I got an appointment for 7:15pm that very night.

I was taken within minutes, numbed up to my relief, and had the tooth and its roots methodically extracted with absolutely zero pain. I even had a good chat with the dentist about the use of AI in future dental practice. Turns out I had a small abscess that was super compacted. With nowhere to vent, it was sending random waves of excruciation through my jaw and head.

It cost me barely anything and I walked out pain free.

Pain at any point in time is bad. We all hate it. That's why we go out of our way to avoid it. Toothache is one of the worst things anyone or thing can feel. A severely compacted dental abscess is near the extreme end of that awful list. When I walked into the Glasgow Dental Hospital, I was carrying the sort of pain that makes people eventually do stupid things. And I would have.

But they saved me. They took the worst pain I've physically felt in my five decades and sent me on with a smile.

I thoroughly recommend the Glasgow Dental Hospital. It's a fine institution that has helped and healed so many of Glasgow's people when they're desperate and hurting.

Sincerely, thank you. So, so much.
