"Experienced and compassionate professionals"

About: Woodend Hospital / Pre-operative Assessment Clinic

(as the patient),

After a flexible cystoscopy in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary the previous week, I was contacted by Woodend to arrange a date for a pre op assessment as the last one had expired.

As ever, a certain amount of age-related concern about what would happen if I failed the assessment. I have to say this assessment was much more pleasant than the last one.

The assessment was carried out in two parts and careful explanations were given as to why an assessment was necessary.

The second part was lengthier, with a detailed questionnaire about personal health/which medication was currently prescribed. However, even though it was skilfully done, I feel that if a terminal was provided, I could have zipped through a large part of the questionnaire thereby saving a lot of time? Having said that, I am aware that self-assessment could provide opportunity for dissembling.

Overall, it was a pleasant encounter with two very experienced and compassionate professionals.

My only suggestion is that dedicated parking could be provided for pre op assessment patients only.

Woodend is a bit of a warren; parking is a lottery and getting to Ward 16 is a drag for those with mobility issues.

Although I am very familiar (maybe too familiar) about my planned operation, for first timers it would be a very reassuring experience.
