"The excellent care provided by the NHS"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Renal Unit

(as a service user),

I am a male in my 60s who 2 years ago had a Double lung Transplant at Freemans Hospital in Newcastle. Due to particular Immune suppressant drugs I developed stage 5 kidney failure. This was first discovered by the Renal unit at the Ulster Hospital in Belfast. I had a catheter installed to support dialysis. I attend the renal unit 3 times a week for treatment.

Since starting treatment I have developed a rapport with the Doctors and Nurses within the Renal unit. When I first started dialysis the staff explained exactly what would happen, this really put me at ease, they are very professional, polite, confident and competent people. One of the Nurses, Anita, made me aware of the option to have a fistula created in my arm, I followed her suggestion which has been extremely beneficial.

I can not speak highly enough of the Renal unit staff. Thank you all for your excellent care.

Firstly let me thank you for your very positive and kind feedback in regards to all the staff I am very pleased to hear that your journey with us has been a good experience for you. It can make life on dialysis slightly better. I will share your comments with all the staff.

Secondly I am very happy that my suggestion of a fistula has been of benefit your time on dialysis as well as your lifestyle.

I do hope we as a unit continue to be professional, polite, confident and are able to put you at ease the whole way through your journey of dialysis treatment with us.
