"Double Z Plasty/Perineal repair"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

A good experience as ops go. I was informed at every point what was going to happen and checked I was ok. I asked for and was given gas and air, it was more for my reassurance than actual need though as the local worked well. Chris kept me occupied with chat and amusing stories. Everyone was extremely professional, kind and understanding and I felt I was in very capable hands. Info given before and after the op regarding self care and what to expect.

Post op appointment went well, I had a good chat with the surgeon on what to do going forward.

Staff involved were Dr Kristin Fiedler - surgeon - brilliant in my opinion with such a wonderful bedside manner. Helena, Ally and Chris  - thank you all for your professionalism and kindness.

I have nothing bad to say about this experience but as you requested my thoughts for going forward: Although it’s mentioned in the paperwork it was not spoken about on the day and that’s having a bowel movement afterwards. I found it would have been helpful to have would advise something like Dulcolax on hand and to start taking it after the appt. I was given some of the blue gloves for applying the Chloramphenicol (which I am grateful for) but I needed a few more which we ordered online, maybe this could be added to the info as well? I don’t think I realised how long it takes to fully recover from the op, I was told at the follow up that inflammation would take 3 months or so to go and that I might not feel right until then. I could not find an online forum for this procedure, other than one person’s experience 7 years ago, does anyone know of one?

I am very grateful I had the experience I did, thank you.

Hello Cornwall Maid,

thank you for your feedback, I will pass this on to the rest of the team and also pass on your suggestions for more information about aftercare.

I am glad you felt well supported by the team during the procedure. Our hope is that stories such as yours will reassure people who may have to have similar procedures in the future.

I wish you a speedy recovery!
