"Should the results really take this long?"

About: Victoria Hospital / Colorectal Unit

(as the patient),

I had a colonoscopy back in April. At the time I was told I would receive my results in around 5 weeks. A couple of weeks later I called the Colonoscopy dept and was told the results take around 11 weeks. I know they had a back log but it has now been 14 weeks since my procedure and I am still no further forward. I was told they could not discuss the results over the telephone. All they said was that if there was anything serious they would have let me know. Going into the colonoscopy it was assumed I had ulcerative colitis due to my symptoms and I know they found an ulcer. Various biopsies were taken.

I now feel I am on the cusp of another 'flare' of what I originally went to my GP with. I am unable to address next steps until I get my results. Should the results really take this long?

Thank you taking the time to make us aware of your experience, I am saddened to hear you have ongoing issues related to your suspected ulcerative colitis,. I fully appreciate the impact living with inflammation of the bowel can have on your overall wellbeing. Waiting for results can be an extremely anxious time which in return can have an impact on your bowel function.

I wondered if you would feel comfortable enough to email me directly, that way I can pass your details and ongoing follow up to the correct department.

This will enable the team involved in your investigation to offer advice and support you through this difficult time.

Many Thanks

Wendy.
