"Tameside General Ward 14 and 8 - ultrasound problems"

About: Tameside General Hospital

(as the patient),

The ultrasound scan department determine priorities over consultant wishes. Once I was sent home I became an outpatient then I ended up on a 2 month waiting list. There doesn't seem to be any contact after leaving hospital. Six weeks after coming home my GP still has no report of my illness treatment.

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry you were unhappy with some aspects of our services. Patients are discharged from the ward based on the clinical assessment of their consultant. Once the Radiology Department knows a patient has been discharged they send the referral back to the consultant for them to decide if it needs to be performed as an outpatient. Sometimes they have already been told that the examination is required as out-patient. This step is omitted in these cases.

The consultant informs the Radiology Department if they think the scan needs to be done and the request is then put into the main waiting list arranged in order of request date – current waiting time is approximately 5 weeks. When they had their long waiting list of over 20 weeks they would bring these requests to the front of the list.

I am sorry not to have responded sooner. However, Tameside General Hospital has only recently obtained the facility to reply to comments made on this website.
