My waters broke and I was advised to come in to the hospital. At the hospital, I was told that I can have a c section in 48h (as it was weekend) or have an induced labour the next day. They said that I would get treatment as soon as I arrived at the hospital the next day.
So we arrived at 10.00 next day and another midwife said there are 2 parts to induced labour, which no one mentioned before and I was under the impression that I would get hormonal drip straight away. That did not happen. After 2 hours a gel was applied and then I was wait till 6.00pm to see if there are any changes. There weren't. They moved us to another ward. The nurse was trying to get sample of my blood but they evidently could not do it properly as they kept trying to get a sample from different places and finally got someone else to do it. A different nurse put a cannula in my hand but it hurt so much I had to ask someone else to take it out (later on another nurse put it in again and it didn't hurt so it would seem it wasn't put in correctly by the first nurse).
In a meantime we kept asking when someone will take care of us and they kept saying that there are other more urgent cases they need to take care of which make me feel like no one cared about me and my baby.
After waiting for 17 hours, the hormonal drip was finally applied. It took another 16 hours for my baby to born. If I knew that when I was talking to Triage at the very beginning, I would have never chosen to go through that. I would have asked for a c section. The fact that they did not explain the process and made it sound like it will be happening straight away, was really misleading.
Also, during my pregnancy, whenever I called Triage with a problem, their only 2 answers were to tell me it is normal or take some paracetamol, which is not reassuring if that's a solution to every single problem.
Moreover, I don't think there's enough support regarding breastfeeding. I was told that the milk will automatically start after labour, which is not true in many cases. I don't understand why midwives don't advise that we should start working on a supply before labour or that it sometimes take time to develop supply, it really messes up with our mental health!
What is more, at Ward 8 every midwife keep saying different things about breastfeeding which is also confusing. Especially for 1st time parents.
