I've been attending ongoing appointments at the Oncology Unit, Western General Hospital Edinburgh, since being diagnosed with cancer Nov 2020.
I live alone and take myself to all appointments by car. I used to dread entering the hospital carpark - not only was I anxious about cancer treatment & feeling unwell but carpark staff were rude, unhelpful & obtrusive - subjecting me to many questions before allowing entry.
All that changed when Carol joined the team about 15 months ago. Carol is always polite, smartly dressed, friendly and caring to all - she realises that we patients just want to get in & out the hospital without grief.
The hospital carparks are always so busy but Carol takes time to help patients find a space & keep things moving. If there's a queue to get in, she'll suggest we 'phone the department to say we may be late for appointment - this eases the stress for everyone.
What a difference Carol has made to hospital visits for me & many others, and I'm so grateful to her. I believe Carol has been promoted recently and this is so well deserved.
Carol's positive work ethic & attitude has also rubbed off on some of her colleagues, I'm very glad to say. Carol has turned the team around!
