"Spinal Surgery - excellent care"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / General surgery (Wards 9a, 9b, 9c & 9d)

(as a relative),

My dad attended the QEUH for spinal decompression surgery in mid June 2024 after waiting over 3 years for the surgery whilst he had treatment for two types of cancer.   The surgery had been scheduled for September but he was offered a cancellation and the team assured him he would be up on his feet in time for a cruise with my mum in August.  For years my dad was in constant pain and his mobility and quality of life were greatly reduced, which was affecting his mood.  His surgery was performed by Mr Bhattathiri and  the nursing team could not have been any nicer to my dad or shown him better care.  Mr Bhattathiri took the time to come see my dad and speak with my mum and I before and after his surgery.  He was warm and friendly and his humour and time was appreciated at what had been a worrying time for my family.  The team had my dad up and walking and back home the day after his surgery.  My dad is no longer in the constant pain and his mobility has improved, although recovery and rehab will take time, and he was able to go on the cruise with my mum as the team promised.  I cannot thank Dr Bhattathiri and the team enough for their exceptional care and for giving my dad relief from constant pain and a quality of life back.
