"Clinical abandonment"

About: Highly Specialist Services / Sheffield adult autism and neurodevelopmental services (SAANS)

(as the patient),

Received letter that I met the criteria and the ADHD assessment waiting list would be no more than three years. Coming up to three years later, I contacted SAANS and was informed that the waiting list is now five years. They had six nurses and now only have two. I would have been left waiting for an assessment with no communication. I feel like three years of my life was wasted with no support or assessment.

Good morning,

We understand that the lengthy waits for assessment can be upsetting and cause distress. We know how difficult it may feel not knowing when you might start the assessment process with our service.

ADHD services nationally are experiencing high demand at present. This demand is resulting in longer wait times than we would want or expect for our service users. We acknowledge this can feel extremely frustrating and are working locally with our team and with our commissioners to improve this.

As an organisation and as a priority we are working hard to reduce the waiting times for these assessments.

If you would like to discuss your experience further, please contact me on zoe.dodd@shsc.nhs.uk.

Kind Regards,

Zoe
