"Burst heart artery"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Cardiology & Coronary Care Unit

(as a service user),

Ninewells Hospital did not have the technology to save me, the only alternative was an operation at Edinburgh Royal by cardio specialist Mr Giordano. I was given an LV repair with a Dacron patch. In Ward 111  I was in a coma for 5 days needing every kind of help to keep me alive! When I regained consciousness I was wheeled to a separate room in the ward because I was in need of oxygen. During my 2-week stay in Ward 111 I was assigned a nurse to care for me 24 hours a day. I will always be most grateful for the care and attention they gave me. I would not have survived but for their care. And thanks Nursing assistant John who insisted on giving me a shave before I left the ward.

Many thanks for your response, yes my partner was told I was beyond help so to be told I had a chance of recovery on a boxing day in Edinburgh was magical for her and myself!. There must have been 15 people in the operating theatre that had given up their holiday just to help me ...thanks so much..as I said the staff at ward 111 were superb when you consider I had not enough strength to unwrap a Kit Kat (I tried so hard).Yes thank you my recovery has been hard but successful!
